How to maintain and style your hair prosthesis?

styling your hair prosthesis

At Center Capillaire France Godard, we offer quality hair solutions to our customers in Saint-Eustache and surrounding areas. You plan to get a wig and you are wondering what care it will require? In this blog article, you will discover the steps to maintain and style a hair prosthesis made from synthetic or natural hair.

Maintenance of a synthetic fiber wig (to be done after approximately 30 hours of use)

Here are the steps for cleaning a synthetic hair prosthesis:

  1. Detangle the wig flat, without pulling on the fibers.

  2. Prepare a container of lukewarm water with shampoo specially designed for artificial hair.

  3. Completely immerse the prosthesis in water.

  4. Leave to soak for 15 minutes.

  5. Rinse the wig in cold water.

  6. Dab the prosthesis with a towel.

  7. Shake lightly to remove excess water.

  8. Spray with synthetic hair conditioner.

  9. Let the prosthesis dry in the open air on a suitable support (never on a Styrofoam head!).

Styling Tips: when the synthetic wig is completely dry, you simply have to shake it out and detangle it with your fingers or a comb so that it regains its original style. To give it more volume, simply ruffle the strands with your fingertips.

Maintenance of a natural fiber wig (to be done approximately once a week)

Here are the steps for washing a natural hair prosthesis:

  1. Gently brush or comb the fibers onto a flat surface.

  2. Wet and shampoo natural hair using a very moisturizing product.

  3. Rinse the prosthesis immediately (do not soak).

  4. Apply a moisturizing conditioner.

  5. Leave the product to act for approximately 2 minutes.

  6. Rinse thoroughly.

  7. Absorb excess water with a towel.

  8. Let the prosthesis dry on a suitable support.

Styling Tips: Unlike synthetic fibers, natural hair requires styling to achieve a polished look. Curling irons and flat irons can therefore be used (applying a protective product is recommended), but you must absolutely avoid touching the cap when the instrument is hot.
